  • The Customary Hey I’ve Been Featured Post

IIRC, somewhere in the Great Book of Xanga just before the section about the coming of the Xanga Apocalypse (the end is near I tell you, the signs are all there, xanga parties, beauty contests, we’re doomed!),  there is a section that states that when thou art featured thou shalt make every effort to follow it up with a blog entry about said experience.  This is my attempt to follow through with that tradition.

It was quite an odd surprise really. I woke up early on Saturday and noticed a couple of odd comments on my blog from people who hadn’t commented on my blog before, so I wondered “hmm, I wonder if someone recommended that entry?”  But then I thought nothing of it and went out about my day. I went to a Magic Tournament actually. The Eventide pre-release where I played for most of the day and won 9 booster packs in spite of having not played Magic much at all over the past year and having virtually no knowledge of Shadowmoor. I only had one match loss, against the only girl I played in the entire tournament. I think that’s like the third time that’s happened too. How odd.

But anyway, I got totally lost on the way home as I forgot my GPS, found myself randomly heading west when my apartment is to the North East of where the tournament was held. And it was raining like crazy. Somehow I made it back in one piece though.

And that’s when I turned on my computer and… Holy Crap!  There were like a ridiculous number of footprints on my blog and 5 times the usual number of comments.  All in one day. Woah!

It didn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that I’d been featured. And yup there I am second entry on the front page.   It’s my blog post on Kryptonite wherein I use Superman as an example to demonstrate how human beings can be callous and inconsiderate in making demands of others.

To say I was surprised that this entry in particular got featured is an understatement. I mean, I didn’t think it was bad or anything, it’s just that I whipped it out without that much thought and I don’t think it’s really one of my best works. I sort of half way felt and feel like I was talking out of my a-hole.  Honestly, I’m not sure I agree with everything I wrote in that entry, but I am certain that I really do feel what I wrote. It was based on personal experiences I’ve had and observed. And not just with psychiatric disorders too. I used those as my primary examples because I felt the attitude was most common in those cases. But I could have used physical and mental impairments as well.

Anyway, I haven’t really replied to many of the comments on that entry. Nor have I visited many of your sites and left comments on your blogs or anything.  I just want anyone who is reading this to know that that’s not because I am ungrateful or uninterested. I am honored and flattered by the attention this entry has gotten. And I want to thank each and every one of you who left a comment. Especially those of you who took the time to write thoughtful and interesting comments. I’ve read them all and I pretty much agree with all of them, even the people who disagreed with me. Or at least I understand where you are coming from. Anyway, I do intend to go through to as many of your blogs as I can and check them out. I’m looking forward to finding many hidden gems amongst them! ^_^

And I want to say I’m glad that this entry meant something to some of you. That you could relate to what I was saying and in so far as it mattered to you I’m glad then that I wrote it.

But… yeah I don’t really write stuff exactly like that every day. Still, I hope that those of you who discovered this blog through the featured webblog entry and choose to stick around and read this blog every once in a while enjoy it. I can tell you now that I do get dry and boring sometimes, but still I hope you find something interesting in it. And I look forward to interacting with each of you on Xanga. Xanga means a lot to me and I cherish the friendships and connections I forged on here. I’m looking forward to forging many more with each of you!

That’s it for now. Thanks again everyone! See you around Xanga!

  • Congratulations on getting featured. :] I wonder how that feels.. but then again, I’m not really sure if I want to be featured..

  • I’m not going to say “good for you!” or “congratulations!” because I can’t figure out how to say it in a way that sounds not lame nor appropriately snarky.

Since you’re living the dream and all, try not to forget your real friends while you’re at the top. You know these crazy kids. Get featured one time and all of the sudden you’re in this crazy, fast paced blogging world with agents clamoring at your doorstep and a lawsuit battling over the movie rights. Then you end up in this downward spiral of fast cars and even faster company. The meth and other drugs in your daily cocktail slowly eat away at your psyche while your blogs become more and more “experimental” amd less and less grounded in reality. One day your agent that’s secretly been sleeping with your wife finds your unconscious on the floor of a room in the Four Seasons. You never wake up and become just another sad E! True Hollywood Story.

  • @elvesdoitbetter - ROFL!!

Wait a minute? Who were you again? One of the commoners aren’t you? Away, away with you, peasant filth! This blog is only for the chosen few nobels of the Featured Class.

*goes off to plan his mansion that will be decorated with a solid gold N*

  • @purplepixiepoo - I’m honestly surprised you haven’t been! But it seems you’ve been following another path to fame and recognition   Good luck with the contest!

And honestly I know what you mean about not being sure if you want to be featured. I was happy to be featured but increased attention it’s always a mixed bag as I’m sure you know.

  • @nephyo - Oh wow. That’s very sweet of you to say that you’re surprised that I haven’t been featured. I don’t know about the contest. If you noticed, my page is new and I don’t have my campaign banners up anymore. I’m just plenty tired of it. I mean, I enjoy that people drop flattering comments that I’m pretty and hot, but some of the girls I’m competing with seem like they’re out for blood and I don’t want that kind of competition. It’s very stressful and being that I have a heart disease, getting stressed is not good for me.

So i’m back to my usual self.
I’m glad that we’re talking about something personal. It feels like you are a close friend and I do hope we get closer. :] I promise to be here more often and I’m subscribing!

  • I’ve heard several people say that, that they never expected a certain post to get featured because they didn’t think it was that good themselves. Interesting.

(I’d like to be featured, myself…but there, I’m whining again. )

  • @purplepixiepoo - Yeah I don’t think I could stand the competitiveness of those things either and I don’t have any heart condition. I can see why you are stepping back.

And I’d sure like to be friends and I hope we do get closer. =] Sounds like a good deal. I’ll do my best to be on and comment as much as I can. And I look forward to following your blog whatever directions it may turn. ^_^

  • @nephyo - That is sooo very sweet. :] I appreciate it so much.

I’m not stepping back, stepping back coz asyou know, I have a looot of supporters and I know that it would be heartbreaking for them if i just quit without fighting a good fight. So I’m up for it if I get through the 5 and if not, then okay. I mean, I just want to stop campaigning coz it’s getting tired. Oh by the way, my name is Ritzy. But you may also call me Pixie coz that how I’m known on Xangaland. Whichever you prefer. I’m 20 years old, and I’m turning 21 on July 20!! Yipeee.. :]] I live in the Philippines so yeah, hahaha. That’s why I always end my posts with: “Filipino sentence of the day”

  • @VaultESL - you haven’t been featured either? But your power and influence seems to be quite considerable in the land of Xanga already!

  • @nephyo - POWER! UNLIMITED POWER!!!

    *cough*

um, right, what was I saying? Yeah. Well, it’ll probably happen eventually. Still and all, I’m glad to see when good people like you and Legendairy and trebleclef402 get featured. Y’all deserve it….

  • @purplepixiepoo - yeah that’s sort of what I meant by stepping back and not campaigning as much. Not stepping down. I’m not really following the contest that much, but I’m glad you’re not stepping down and I’m sure a lot of your supporters will be glad to know that.

    *bows*

I am honored to make your acquaintance Pixie. I’m Kellen, but I usually go by my Xanga’s name of Nephyo on here in public. A name which has no meaning whatsoever.  I use my real name in private messages or IMs when communicating with people I consider to be friends.  And I’m 28.  See you around Xanga!

  • @VaultESL - The day you are featured all of Xanga will Tremble! The world will bow down at your feet! It will be a day for the history books. I look forward to that day with great anticipation! I only hope that you will remember we lowly followers of thine as you join the likes of that spiderman and theologian in the ranks of xangan godhood! :)

Haha. But really you do deserve it. You’ve only been on Xanga a short time compared to me so I’m sure you’ll be featured soon.

  • @nephyo - Alrighty! See you around! I’m sorry if I took up a lot of your time. :[ But yeah, I'm here when you need me.. :]

  • Haha, yeah. Plus, free food. ^_^’ It does make sense.
Hmm, I tested the comment box on my browser and it seems to be working fine. A glitch, maybe?

  • Ah, the token “after-featured post”.  I remember writing one once.  Of course, at the time I wrote it I had never been featured before but still.  That does still count right?
So…. if you hit it big with Kryptonite… does that make you the Kryptonite king and thus, Lex Luthor?

  • haha magic.. haven’t played that for a few years… good game though.. I am a fan of slivers myself

  • @resilient_raindrop - it has always been that way for me on your site actually. Maybe I’ll try IE or Safari next time I comment on your blog and see if it’s Firefox or one of my extensions causing the issue. I do run NoScript so maybe that has something to do with it.

  • @Legendairy - Yup it counts. The xanga gods will not smite thee!

I’m Lex Luthor? Sweet! I’d much rather be him than Superman actually. Honestly… in my hierarchy of super powers Lex trumps Superman.  I’ve really gotta write those posts soon.

Now that I’ve got the Kryptonite and Superman is outta the way, it’s time to take over the world!

  • @B0rn_Leader - Slivers rock. I heard last year they made some new ridiculously powerful slivers, like ones that make all your slivers give 2 poison counters or give all your slivers +2/+2 and other crazy stuff. But I wasn’t really playing much at all back then so I don’t really know much about them. Back when I played a lot you had good old Crystalline Sliver which was the best and a bunch of other ok slivers to help it out.

You’re right though, Magic is a very fun game.

  • I’m gone for three days (darn internet problems) and look what happens!! Congratulations. :) The post was totally worthy of being featured content.

  • @buckeyegirl31 - haha! Cool mini! And thanks

  • @nephyo - Well… I think I’m Batman so you still might have trouble. haha!

  • Returning aaaaall the comments on a featured post… whew, that is such a chore, good luck with that.

After I got featured the second time, I actually looked at my piece and thought “Wait… this isnt that good…”

    =XD

Just further proof that Xanga never features anything worth featuring! Ha!

  • congrats! i am a long-time subscriber and can attest to the fact that you have many interesting things to say.  keep em coming :]

  • @fullmetalbunny - yup!  I agree! If they are featuring the likes of you and me they’ve got serious problems! :D

Haha I haven’t even gotten through the first page of the comments, and I haven’t gotten all that many really. Man it’s tough. But I’ve already found a lot of interesting blogs so it’s totally worth it!

  • @sugarkitten - Thanks! I’ll do my best not to disappoint. ;-]
