It’s Too Quiet
Is it just me?
Or does the world seem too quiet to you? I get this feeling that everyone is distracted, worried, holding their breathe. Everything is happening as normal, only there’s less of it. Even online, in all the forums and blogs I frequent, people are quieter. There’s not as much talk about recent television shows, movies, video games, books, or even sports. Even the Presidential debates have gotten little response. It’s like nobody knows what to say anymore. And the things people do talk about… be they important or trivial, there’s less enthusiasm in the words. There’s more caution. There’s a sense of uncertainty and hesitation that seems to permeate the world. It’s like… people just don’t have any clue what happens next.
Do you?

i think people have shouted so much recently that they’ve lost their voices. it will come back.
Wow. Yeah. Wow. You know Kellz, you alawys make me want to think. And wow, this is great.
Soo amazing. I miss you so much. I hope everything is well.
I actually had this exact same thought the other day. It’s eerie. Like everyone is waiting for Ragnarök or something.
Um, nope. It must just be an American thing
.
@Katiefinger - oh? Well what’s the noise going on in the rest of the world? Definitely quiet here.
@elvesdoitbetter - Oh I hope so! Ragnarok would be helluva cool! We’ll all drown and die or something but it’d still be helluva cool.
@moonlitsage - lazy asses! Now’s the time to shout the loudest! What if in the civil rights movement people had said ohh my throat hurts after a week of complaining and shut up about it?
People just aren’t pissed off ENOUGH yet. Almost unbelievable considering the last 7 years. But we’re getting there.
I just meant it’s no quieter here than it has been for a while and I’m not finding people to be distracted or worried as much as you make out they are on your side of the pond. I didn’t say it was noisy here
…
@Katiefinger - lol. well it’s always noisy here. Just a bit quieter than usual. And a lot of people are definitely worried. But probably not everywhere. Only the upper middle class and elites (intellectual or economic). The poorer people are no more worried than they have been for many months now. But they are rarely heard.
We were talking about this at work the other day…it’s almost like people are in a daze of some kind.
@nephyo - I think it’s that we all kill each other for the most part. Then the underworld opens up and we all get burned alive with magma (which, if you recall, is on my list of things I never want to happen to me) or boiled alive (which could be far worse) in the magma heated oceans. Actually, Ragnarok is the only proposed end of the world scenario that truly terrifies me. Give me a zombie invasion or the 3 horses of the apocolypse anyday, just keep Ragnarok as far away as possible.
i don’t know what’s going on, but it is discouraging… it’s hard to be the only one writing or the only one commenting.
well also maybe people are just super busy? ^_^
@elvesdoitbetter - actually I think ironically it’s the most likely scenario. All or most of us killing each other is hardly impossible with modern weaponry. And if our nuclear weapons don’t approximate the magma heated boiling waters and stuff, I recall reading that the world has a couple of super volcanoes, one in particular in Yellowstone National Park is about due to erupt and if it were to do so… I think it would look quite a LOT like Ragnarok. We North Americans lucky us get to burn alive, whereas many others just die in boiling water or drown if they are too far away for the heating effect to take place. And then there’s the resulting ice age that kills off anyone who remains. Only a remnant of a remnant might survive to repopulate the planet.
Hmmm makes me wonder how old Norse Mythology really is.
@raindrops23 - I honestly hope that’s all it is. But I really think people have had lots on their mind and are really distracted. Maybe it’s just something about the onset of winter coupled with the financial crisis. And maybe people are just tired out by the whole presidential election thing that has been going on forever.
