My favorite Music Genre
I’ve explored many different genres of music over the past couple of years trying to decide what my favorite was. I’d like to announce that I’ve finally come to a conclusion. I now have a favorite genre of music. To put it simply:
I likey the silly music.
What do I mean? Well let’s show some examples.

And of course we can’t forget the classics:
So… you get the idea. To be more precise I strongly prefer music that is in some way “clever” and some of the most clever musics out there are in my experience hilarious parodies. Honestly most of these I could listen to over and over again forever. So what are some other clever funny and silly songs I should listen to? I honestly can’t get enough of this stuff.

Really great stuff! The nerd was quite the musician and the EU satire was hilarious!!
Bwahaha I’m not using my xanga. ANYWAYS yeah. Waaaay awesome, and I’m glad you didn’t let me listen to them all before you posted the entry, there’re really some gems in here
This post reminds me how slow my ‘net speed used to be. All these embedded videos would have made my old PC collapse in on itself like a cosmic incident.
Chat Roulette is already an Internet institution, lol.
Though not actually my favorite genre, it’s certainly one I can appreciate.
Are you familiar with the works of Tom Lehrer?
Awesome! I’ve heard most of these before, but they’re awesome every time!
Here are a few other songs you may like:
“Addicted to Stress” by Jim’s Big Ego
“Carrot Juice is Murder” by the Arrogant Worms
“Hey Molly” by Mike Lombardo
“Existential Blues” by Tom “T-Bone” Stankus
“Poisoning Pigeons in the Park” by Tom Lehrer
“Star Trekkin” by The Firm
“The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything” by Relient K, which is actually a song from Veggie Tales, which is an overall fairly lame show, but most of the Silly Songs with Larry are pretty freaking hilarious.
@LoBornlytesThoughtPalace - by “the nerd” do you mean Hank Green? He’s awesome. I actually bought both his albums on amazon. The “EU Satire” must be Autotune the news right? They don’t always do EU stuff but generally focus on American news. They have a new video making fun of Obama’s “whose ass to kick” comment and their next autotune the news comes out next week.
@SoapAndShampoo - Yeah my site is the bane of dialup users these days! Hooray for modern broadband! Though honestly, this’d probably suck just as much on G3 networks with their new dl caps. But who cares about those ipad users?
I have yet to try chat roulette. It amazes me that it is so popular. But I think the idea could be advanced into something much more awesome. Maybe I will share thoughts on that in a future entry.
@BobRichter - @elvesdoitbetter - I hadn’t heard of any of these before. But I’m listening to them now and so far… AWESOME! Tom Lehrer already seems like he’ll be one of my very favorites. Thanks for the suggestions! Maybe I’ll post a follow up with more great silly songs in the future.
@nephyo - lol, I would not have the nerve to try Chat Roulette. The same instinct that would keep me from setting foot on the grounds of Burning Man or sidewalks of the Folsom Street festival would not allow me to connect a camera to such a site. :X Considering some of the things I hear about it, hahaha.
@SoapAndShampoo - I’ve never even heard of the Folsom Street Festival. But yeah Burning Man is something I couldn’t do either. It intrigues me though. Like it’s the kind of thing I wish I was willing to do.
Chatroulette I might be able to do. Not sure. It’s weird. You can always just click next on people so I think plenty of the rumors are exaggerated. But I generally don’t like interacting with people in person and the worst part of talking to people in person is the awkward part where you just started talking and have nothing to talk about. Chat roulette seems to be build entirely around that awkward initial interaction.
What I was thinking is that it would be cool if chatroulette was setup more like a chat room. I mean you could have like a conference call setup with 6-8 people and a specific topic that the chat is focused on. So for example if you want to talk about say the politics surrounding the oil spill or the new fullmetal alchemist anime you’d click the button for the appropriate room using that topic and you’d be randomly matched up with 5-7 other people interested in that topic. And you have a discussion. There could be tools for moderation and you can have joint moderation too. Like they could vote people out of the chat if they find the person obnoxious or a troll and that person would just be thrown into another chat. If someone gets booted all the time well then the site could ban that person. That to me would be a lot cooler than the way chatroulette is now and I’d be much more likely to use it.
@nephyo - Folsom Street is in San Francisco. lol, I’d love to see SF someday, and I admire its open-minded and liberal approach to life, but only SF would allow a BDSM and leather festival in broad daylight.
Burning Man I could handle and it would be very cool- for the art exhibitions if nothing else- if only the guests were required to at least wear loincloths.
As for Chat Roulette, your idea does sound better than the current model. Presently it’s omegle.com with cameras. Video chatrooms would no doubt please a lot of people. Maybe Skype should look into something like that.
@BobRichter - @elvesdoitbetter - Correction. I HAD heard of Tom Lehrer. Well in particular I’d heard of two of his songs. New Math and Who’s Next. I’d forgotten them but they were old favorites.
Now I’ve listened to nearly every Lehrer song available on youtube. This guy is a genius. I am awed. I think it’s fair to say he’s the Father of the Silly Music genre.
@elvesdoitbetter - I can’t believe I’d never heard of this “veggie tales” thing. It’s quite… odd….
@SoapAndShampoo - *crosses Folsom Street off of list of places to see when I visit SF*
I don’t think Skype can do it. It has to be a super easy to use website like chat roulette otherwise it won’t have any wide ranging appeal. Ideally it should work with iphones and ipads amd androids and other cellphones too.
