  • Television, Zombies, Giraffes and a Platypus – Getting Thinky Podcast Episode 04

Click here to listen to Episode 4 of our podcast. Participants include me (obviously), Jimmy, Kaiti, Andrew, Melissa, and Grace.

This episode was recorded on 08/15/2010.  That’s precisely 84 days ago not including the end date. I would like to take this time to point out that that is LESS than 3 months ago. Now had it taken me 3 months to post this podcast I could understand why the whole world would be outraged and apalled and might feel the urge to form into a lynch mob and come to my house to destroy me. You’d be fully justified in doing so. Only some kind of demonic entity or zombie would withhold such awesomeness from you for three whole months! But luckily it DIDN’T take me 3 months to post this podcast. It was only 84 days. So none of you should have any cause to complain whatsoever.

Besides, the topics discussed herein are timeless.Giraffes are beloved by all. Zombies and Platypodes never go out of style. And Television was never in style to begin with so no worries there.

In truth, I think this was one of the better, though lighter, and funnier episodes of the podcast. If others are interested in getting together to do more episodes, then more episodes will follow. Hopefuilly that will come to pass. With a little energon and a lot of luck many episodes will flow forth like a great river of awesome so that we might all bask in its glory.

    DFTBA.

  • Gah, I was halfway through it and writing a comment as it went. Then the electricity went out for a second and took everything with it. D:

I’ll try to get the gist of the comment here.

You are definitely not the only one who doesn’t care for TV in this modern era. Since Cartoon Network sold its soul to Chowder and Flapjack and other such travesties, there is nothing much watching. Thankfully we still have YouTube and Crunchyroll. (Even though the latter is saturated in moe. I’m sure not everyone minds that as much as I do.)

My mom used to love the Weather Channel, when it was still a blue screen to the tune of light jazz. Now they show Storm Stories 26 hours a day and it’s ruined for her.

Probably it’s not uncommon for those in our generation to be very familiar with the TV as background filler. Baby boomers loved television, so they had it on all the time. I used to turn on the TV when I needed to sleep but was too upset to. The television was company, and made me feel less alone. Today I play MP3s, either a comfort-food playlist or nature sounds like a thunderstorm or whatever.

That wasn’t everything from my previous comment, but it is indeed the gist.

Was that your cat who kept meowing in the background? :3

  • @SoapAndShampoo - the power went out here too and killed my TV, but today it seems to be back to life again.  You’re right about cartoon network. I can’t watch it most of the time.  But it might be that we’ve just gotten more picky and we don’t watch a little of everything anymore. We just watch the few things we like.

I wonder how this plays internationally though. Are people feeling that anime in Japan is getting worse too? Or it is just like you said, we the children of Baby boomers are all TVed out?

But I don’t really think it’s just that. It’s more that we are more of an active-entertainment generation than a passive entertainment generation. We like to do our own thing.

    One more thing.

    The cat is a lie.
